The organization believes that the children are at the core of the development process. They need care and protection to grow as a healthy citizen and contribute in the development process while they themselves become productive and self-reliant. Against this backdrop, SOVA is implementing different child centered activities to ensure child survival, child development, child participation and protection. Institutional care and organizational plat from has been created and provided to the children to create an enabling environment to best protect the interest of the children.

The programmes and activities include awareness generation and capacity building of the local service providers on health education and child participation. Activities have been undertaken at the Panchayt level involving the PRIs to stop child migration, exploitation and stop child labour. Sensitization activities have been undertaken at the Block and district level involving the officials of the line departments to strengthen the institutional care and protection of the children. Child clubs have been formed and strengthened at the village level to promote leadership development among the children and increase child participation in the decision making process.

Child Participation and protection:The Child Protection and participation is an integral part of SOVA; s work. We work to ensure protection and participation of children within the child right frame works and keep in mind the cross-cutting themes of child participation, non-discrimination and best interests of children.

Our child protection work focuses on:

• Child Exploitation & child migration & trafficking
• Children in labour work
• Children with inadequate parental care including alternatives to institutional care
• Children affected by emergencies, disaster and conflict

SOVA is working in tribal districts of Odisha where most of the children are vulnerable and living in a disadvantaged and conflict situation.

• Encourage for building child protection mechanism at all level to provide adequate protection from community to institutional level
• provide institutional care and protection for vulnerable children with the support of District Child Protection Unit
• building care and protection of children and integrate into social welfare and poverty reduction strategies
• Building the capacity of PRI members and duty bearers to provide effective care and protection services to the vulnerable children
• Create awareness among different stakeholders about the understanding of the situation of vulnerable children in need of care and protection
• Promote children’s club and supporting their participation in their own rights

We empower children and other community members to advocate for their right to education and fight against child labor and corporal punishment. By organizing children and providing them the information they need, their collective voice becomes a powerful change agent in their communities.
