LivelihoodOverview |
We have set up a microfinance program for the tribal women in our self-help groups to decrease their financial dependence and have a safe place to turn to for financial support. The system helps them access credit, devise income generation activities, and mobilize government funds. We've facilitated the formation of "Koraput Swanya Shayayak Mahasanga," a federation of 81 women's self-help groups with a total of 902 members. The federation acts like a bank, where women can make small transactions to meet the immediate needs of their fellow villagers. We help to link different income sources and agencies to strengthen the federation. The increase in the per capita income of the villagers partaking in the federation has encouraged more village women to take part. It has also contributed to the confidence and desire of the poorest women in villages to become more involved in their communities and to be more active in decision making processes. |
