Education
Overview |
One of the greatest barriers to child education in Koraput is that many children suffer from poor health before they are even old enough to attend school. The goal of our Early Childcare Development program is to ensure that children reach their school age healthy and well nourished, intellectually curious, socially confident, and equipped with a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Balwadi Centers (Integrated Child Development Centers)Balwadi centers provide a learning and nourishing environment for children aged 3 to 6. We run 4 Balwadi Centers for 117 children (55 boys and 62 girls) and also work on strengthening 17 Government-run Balwadi Centers (462 children) to improve their infrastructure, administration, planning activities, and resources. We create and distribute teaching and learning materials to all the centers. At our 4 centers, 80% of the learning takes place outside the classroom, where children explore their natural environment. Our aim is to have this model replicated in all government centers. Another important part of our program is encouraging mothers to get involved in their children's learning at the centers and at home. Without this, the Balwadi centers would not be such a success. TrainingOver the past 4 years, we have provided training to village mothers and caregivers on maternal and child health, nutrition, and household safety. |
